One arrested after missing UEW lecturer is found buried at Effutu Gyahadze

A lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Amedeke of the Chemistry Department, has been murdered and buried in his residence at Effutu Gyahadze in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region.

Information gathered by Adom News suggests that Prof. Amedeke mysteriously went missing on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Following a complaint by his colleagues, the police proceeded to his house, where he was found murdered and buried.

According to reports, Prof. Amedeke’s throat was slit, and his intestines were removed before he was buried.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that a suspect was found at the residence and subsequently arrested.

Police found bloodstains and traced them to a heap of sand about 23 metres from the house. Upon clearing it, a body believed to be that of Prof. Amedeke was discovered buried underneath.

The body has since been exhumed and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

Items including two Samsung phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a key to a Toyota Fortuner—identified as the deceased’s belongings—were retrieved.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Ateetu Police in Effutu, assisting with investigations, and will be arraigned before court.
