Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has attributed West Ham United’s disappointing 2024/25 campaign, in part, to the dip in form of Mohammed Kudus.
After a stellar debut season in which the Ghanaian attacker scored 14 goals, registered seven assists, and played a vital role in the Hammers’ Europa League journey, the 24-year-old has struggled to replicate that form this term.
With just one game left in the season, Kudus has managed only four goals and three assists across all competitions.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher highlighted Kudus’ drop-off as a key reason behind the club’s poor showing in the Premier League.
“Well, I see there’s no doubt he’s a quality player who should be playing for a team closer to the top of the table, not near the bottom. But probably one of the reasons why West Ham are where they are this season is because he hasn’t shown the form that he showed last season,” he said.
“Last season, he looked fantastic; he just hasn’t looked the same player this season,” Carragher added.
Carragher also hinted that Kudus could be on the move this summer, especially considering West Ham’s financial situation and the midfielder’s continued appeal to elite European clubs.
“So, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a change there in some way, because, as you said, West Ham need the money. But other clubs might think this is an off-season for him.
“Last season was the real cue to say you can get that type of player; maybe it’s a good sign. So it might be the type of situation that maybe works for the two clubs,” he added.
West Ham will round off their campaign on Sunday with a trip to Portman Road, where they’ll face already-relegated Ipswich Town.
