Fire destroys part of high-tension pole at Nsawam Market

-

A fire outbreak at the Nsawam Market has partially destroyed a high-tension electricity pole, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the pole carrying high-voltage cables.

The Suhum Fire Station received a distress call at 4:05 p.m., and a five-member team led by Assistant Station Officer Godwin Sarpo was dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team worked closely with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to cut power supply to the area, ensuring the safety of residents and emergency workers.

The fire was brought under control within an hour and fully extinguished by evening.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it caused partial damage to the ECG fuse and parts of the high-tension pole.

Thanks to the timely intervention of GNFS, further damage to nearby electrical installations and market structures was averted.

No injuries were reported. The GNFS has advised residents and vendors in the area to remain vigilant and report any electrical faults or sparks to the authorities immediately.
