Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah is calling for urgent and thorough research into the increasing cases of kidney disease in Ghana, particularly among young people.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on the alarming trend, she noted that she knows individuals who have never consumed alcohol or shown prior signs of illness but were still diagnosed with kidney problems.
“What worries me most is how it’s now affecting younger people,” she said.
“At first, it was mainly older individuals, but now it’s becoming more common among the youth.”
She urged medical research institutions such as the Noguchi Memorial Institute and the Ghana Medical Association to investigate the underlying causes of the surge, suggesting that a national medical research effort is long overdue.
“We need our doctors and researchers to get to work. This is a national concern, and it can’t be ignored,” she stressed.
