Adu-Boahene rearrested after completing remand

Former Director of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, remains in police custody despite the expiration of a seven-working-day remand order issued by the court.

The former security official, who is facing charges including stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state, was first remanded on Friday, May 2, over allegations of witness tampering in a GH¢49.1 million cybersecurity procurement scandal.

However, during a court appearance on Tuesday, May 13, his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, disclosed that Adu-Boahene had been rearrested in connection with a separate case shortly after the initial remand period ended.

“I’ve been hinted that it relates to secured internet services for the benefit of another state institution, the Ghana Water Company. National security provided them with gadgets and well-meaning interventions so that, even from your room, you could monitor the pipes to see whether they were being tampered with,” he explained on May 13.

While details of the new arrest remain scarce, the Attorney General had previously confirmed that Adu-Boahene was under investigation for a case involving internet connectivity equipment supplied to Ghana Water Limited.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing trial, the judge has adjourned proceedings to May 26, 2025, for a case management conference.

The state has filed all witness statements and is expected to disclose them to the defense by May 20.
