President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he will not allow illegal mining to destroy the country’s water bodies and forest reserves.
Speaking to the Ghanaian community in Germany, he said illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’ will devour Ghanaians if it is not halted.
“It will devour all of us, therefore I have called for a halt to it,” Akufo-Addo stated, adding he is obvious of the fact that a lot of the youth are into it as a result of unemployment.
According to him, his government is looking and insisting on other alternative methods of livelihood for those involved in the galamsey act.
The president said he is keen on stopping the menace and Ghanaians must take him by his words.
“I am very lucky to have first class team of people who are working with me with all seriousness and commitment for one purpose,” President Akufo-Addo stated ahead of the G-20 Summit in Germany.
the aim is good but approache is wrong. the alternative must be ready by now. mining is not illegal, so the youth just need correct practise from d learners ones what to do n not to do. what are they feeding on since, what future generation we always talk about? if the youth life is wasted which generation will they raise? we must think and understand well.we dont need whiteman to tell us we will import water within 20yrs if care is not taking. hmmm this issue we dont need booklongs but those understand it.
