Director of the Pantang Hospital, Frank Baning, has called on the government to pay more attention to mental health service provision in the country.

Mr Baning is particularly concerned about the funding of mental health and the government’s policy on same.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, October 24, 2019, the Director said the government needed to implement the Mental Health Fund as stipulated in the Mental Health Act 846, 2012.

“Government must be swift in the implementation of the Mental Health Fund as stipulated in the mental health act 846 in 2012, to help the hospital and all other psychiatric institutions,” he said.

He said mental health service delivery, needed a funding mechanism in place just as the National Health Insurance Scheme.

He also called for the enrollment of mental health treatment on the NHIS as done to general medical conditions since per the law, mental health service was to be delivered for free.
