8-year-old boy drowns in pond after allegedly being pushed by a playmate

An eight-year-old boy has drowned in a fish pond at Degede, a suburb of Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality.

The deceased, identified as Kwabena Kesse, was a Class Three pupil. He reportedly met his death after going to a nearby pond with friends to swim.

According to his grandmother, Vivian Amankwaa, she was at home when one of the children rushed to inform her that another playmate had allegedly pushed her grandson into the pond.

She explained that she immediately raised an alarm and called for help from neighbours, as she was unwell and had just returned from the hospital.

Residents who responded to the distress call rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the boy from the pond. However, he was found unresponsive.

The incident was reported to the Police, who arrived at the scene, conveyed the body to the morgue and have since commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
