The 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, based at the Volta Barracks in Ho, has donated blood to the Ho Teaching Hospital, popularly known as Trafalgar, as part of activities marking its 60th anniversary celebration.

The exercise, held on Wednesday, forms part of a series of commemorative events aimed at giving back to the community and supporting critical healthcare delivery in the Volta Region.

Personnel of the regiment turned out in their numbers to voluntarily donate blood to help replenish the hospital’s blood bank, which plays a crucial role in saving lives, particularly in emergency cases, maternal care, and accident response.

Naval Lt. Francis Ekow Ayison, Head of Lab, 7mrs, noted that the initiative underscores the Regiment’s commitment not only to national security but also to humanitarian service and community engagement.

Phanuel Mordzifa, Regional Blood Manager at the Ho Teaching Hospital, expressed gratitude to the regiment for the timely intervention, describing the gesture as a significant boost to the facility’s capacity to respond to urgent medical needs.

The blood donation exercise is one of several activities lined up to commemorate the regiment’s 60 years of dedicated service.

Other events include a clean-up exercise at the Ho Market, fun games, and a grand durbar to climax the celebrations.

The 66 Artillery Regiment has over the years played a vital role in maintaining peace and supporting civil authorities, while also contributing to social causes within the Volta Region and beyond.
