The Deputy Protocol Director of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Frimpong, says the 6,000-cedi conviction of offenders in the Ablekuma North election re-run could embolden people to cause mayhem in the Akwatia by-election.
The Accra Circuit Court convicted eight men who took part in violent disturbances during the Ablekuma North by-election and sentenced them to pay a fine of 500 penalty units (GH¢6,000) or, in default, serve 24 months in prison.
But Kwame Frimpong says the fine will not serve as a deterrent.
Speaking to AdomNews in an exclusive interview, he said the ruling would rather embolden people to cause more mayhem at Akwatia.
He expects the IGP to ensure adequate security for a free and fair election.
“So, the IGP, with this upcoming by-election, if the security goes well or bad, you are going to be held accountable,” he said.
Mr. Frimpong is however confident the NPP will win the Akwatia by-election.
“We the NPP have done massive campaign and believe the people at Akwatia are going to maintain our candidate because if you see the world market gold price for gold, the NDC are cheating miners with Goldbod’s small price. Akwatia is also a mining community and they are going to punish the NDC on that,” he said.
