A six-year-old boy, Sylvester Owusu, is feared drowned after reportedly falling into the Anikoko River during a heavy downpour on Saturday, May 18, along Dunkwa-Aggrey Road in the Central Region.
Family members say Sylvester was returning home from Zongo Market to Oteng Crescent, having been sent on an errand by his grandmother. While crossing a culvert over the river, he is believed to have slipped and been swept away by the strong floodwaters.
The torrential rain, which lasted from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., caused widespread flooding in parts of the municipality, making the river and its surroundings particularly dangerous.
A full-day search operation involving local volunteers and emergency responders began at dawn on Sunday but has yet to find any trace of the boy. He remains missing as of the latest update.
Authorities have warned residents to exercise extreme caution during and after heavy rains, especially when crossing flood-prone areas. Search efforts are ongoing.
