President John Dramani Mahama has urged all government appointees to venture into agriculture as a sustainable path to wealth creation and national development.
He stressed that farming remains one of the most dependable economic opportunities in the country, noting that he personally invests in agriculture and continues to benefit significantly from it.
Mr Mahama made the call at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho, held under the theme “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.” The event brought together farmers, exhibitors, and key stakeholders to honour the dedication and contributions of Ghana’s food producers.
Addressing the gathering, the President emphasised that agriculture has the potential to transform lives if given the needed attention and investment. He encouraged appointees and public office holders to lead by example by engaging in farming to boost food production while improving their own livelihoods.
“Agriculture is profitable, and I am a testament to that,” he said. “I urge all appointees to take up farming seriously. Not only will it support the nation’s food security efforts, but it will also earn them significant income.”
President Mahama also commended Ghanaian farmers for their resilience and hard work despite economic challenges, climate variability, and rising input costs. He underscored the need for sustained government support to ensure the sector remains vibrant and capable of driving economic growth.
The 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration showcased a variety of agricultural innovations, products, and best practices, while recognising distinguished farmers and fisherfolk for their outstanding contributions to the sector.
The event further highlighted the central role of agriculture in national development and reinforced calls for increased investment, particularly from leaders in public service.
