Police officers on routine patrol in the Wa West District have arrested three men for allegedly possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.
The arrests were made on Monday, February 3, 2026, at Goziri, a community near Vieri, when a police patrol team spotted a group of about five men openly wielding single-barrel guns and cutlasses, raising concerns about public safety.

According to the police, the suspects attempted to flee upon noticing the patrol vehicle, but officers quickly pursued and apprehended three individuals identified as Yahaya Samad, 27; Adams Alhassan, 37; and Yiritang Boosi, 35.
A search at the scene led to the recovery of three single-barrel guns, three cutlasses, and 23 BB cartridges from the suspects.
The three were taken to the police station, where they reportedly admitted during interrogation that they did not possess licences for the firearms and ammunition. They were later arraigned before the Wa Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako, and remanded to reappear on February 18, 2026.
Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects who escaped during the operation.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the patrol team for its vigilance and professionalism, while cautioning members of the public against possessing firearms without proper authorisation. The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and appealed for continued cooperation from the public in safeguarding communities.
