A 22-year-old farmer, Sanusi Musah, has sustained severe cutlass injuries to his fingers and palms following a confrontation with a herdsman near Kparekpare in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region.

In an interview with Adom News, Musah said the incident arose from a disagreement over land use. He alleged that the herdsman allowed cattle to graze on land he intended to cultivate for the upcoming season.

When he asked the herdsman to move the cattle, the herdsman reportedly insisted the area had long served as a grazing ground.

Musah claimed the herdsman drew a cutlass and attempted to attack him, and that he sustained the injuries while trying to defend himself by grabbing the weapon.

However, the herdsman’s father, Bushari Bature, disputed this account, insisting his son was already moving the cattle away when the farmer allegedly attacked him with a stick. He said his son used the cutlass in self-defense, and the farmer was injured during the struggle after grabbing the weapon.

The Assembly Member for the Kparekpare Electoral Area, Isaac Kaliwa, confirmed the incident to Adom News.

He said the suspect’s father has offered to cover Musah’s medical bills but stressed that a thorough medical assessment should be conducted before any financial agreement is finalised.
