Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed confidence that Ghana can leverage the 2026 FIFA World Cup to showcase its ability to host major international tournaments.
The Buem Constituency MP reiterated his belief that Ghana could one day co-host the Mundial alongside Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking at the inauguration of an 11-member Inter-Ministerial Oversight Committee at Jubilee House on Wednesday, Adams emphasized that Ghana’s performance on and off the pitch in North America could influence its prospects for hosting future tournaments.
He called on officials to approach the campaign as a national showcase.
“Experiences of the past, both positive and negative, will guide us into the future, ensuring that we do not just go to kick the ball, but that by the end of the process, Ghana will emerge as one of the biggest winners,” Adams said at the launch.
“The World Cup will be an interesting stage. We will go there and make Ghana and Africa proud, so that when we bid to host in the future, we will be seriously considered because of the strong role we played,” he added.
The committee has been tasked with coordinating Ghana’s World Cup preparations and delivering a unified national strategy. Its members include legendary footballer Abedi Pele, Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe, and Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku.
In support of the campaign, the government has allocated 150 million Ghana cedis. The Black Stars, having secured qualification, are set to make their fifth World Cup appearance across Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
The team will learn its group-stage opponents on December 5 in Washington, DC.
