2026 WCQ: I am focused on Comoros and not personal records – Otto Addo

Ghana head coach Otto Addo says his only concern is securing a win over Comoros as he aims to seal qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting personal records are the least of his priorities.

The 49-year-old, who masterminded Ghana’s qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after a dramatic playoff triumph over Nigeria, is on the brink of leading the nation to yet another global showpiece, which will be co-hosted in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“I’m not thinking about records. It’s always about teamwork. Full focus to win, and that is what I’m thinking about,” Addo said at the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

“In the last match, the players did very well, and we are hoping to execute our plan in the Comoros game very well.

“That is the focus. We will do everything to secure the qualification on Sunday,” he added.

Ghana need just a point to book their ticket to the 2026 tournament after their dominant 5-0 victory over the Central African Republic in Morocco.

That result propelled the Black Stars to the top of Group I with 22 points, three ahead of Madagascar.

The decisive encounter against Comoros will take place on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.

A positive result would see Ghana qualify for their fifth World Cup, following previous appearances in 2006 (Germany), 2010 (South Africa), 2014 (Brazil), and 2022 (Qatar).
