2026 WCQ: Brandon Thomas-Asante replaces injured Inaki Williams for CAR and Comoros games

Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has earned a late call-up to the Black Stars squad ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

The 25-year-old replaces Athletic Bilbao striker Iñaki Williams, who was forced to withdraw from the team after sustaining an injury during his side’s La Liga clash with Real Mallorca on Saturday.

Thomas-Asante, who has been in impressive form for Coventry in the English Championship, was initially omitted from the squad for the games against the Central African Republic and Comoros. However, Williams’ injury has opened the door for his return to the national team — his first since featuring in the Unity Cup in May.

The in-form attacker joined the Black Stars camp on Sunday ahead of their second training session scheduled for Monday, October 4.

Thomas-Asante has made a strong start to the 2025–26 campaign, scoring five goals and providing three assists in nine league appearances. He underlined his sharpness with a brace in Coventry’s victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

The Ghanaian forward has one goal in four senior appearances for the national team.

Ghana will take on the Central African Republic on Wednesday, October 8, at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes in Morocco, before hosting Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.
