2026 WCQ: Agyemang Badu urges support for Otto Addo ahead of CAR and Comoros games

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has called for calm and unity around Black Stars coach Otto Addo as the team heads into the final phase of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Addo, 49, has come under intense criticism following Ghana’s 1-1 draw against Chad in N’Djamena last month. The result sparked widespread debate about his future, although he eased some of the pressure with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Despite that win, concerns persist over the team’s inconsistent form, with Sports Minister Kofi Adams and other government officials openly questioning Addo’s tenure.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Agyemang Badu urged Ghanaians to rally behind the coach rather than destabilize the team ahead of the decisive fixtures.

“I’m not the one who appointed him, but every work each person is doing, they want to succeed. The coach, too, wants to succeed in his work with the Black Stars,” the U-20 World Cup winner said.

“I don’t think the stats show that he has done badly. There is more room for improvement. Let’s wait and play the two matches. There’s more time to deliberate on his future after,” he added.

Ghana will resume their campaign on Wednesday, October 8, with an away clash against the Central African Republic in Meknes, Morocco, before hosting Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium four days later.

Addo has announced a 24-man squad for the decisive ties, where Ghana need just four points to seal a fifth World Cup appearance.

The Black Stars currently lead Group I with 19 points and are well placed to secure qualification for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
