The Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the Black Stars have the quality to progress deep into the tournament.
Ghana will make their fifth appearance on football’s biggest stage when the competition kicks off in North America this summer. The Black Stars have been drawn in the challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
The team enters the tournament on the back of underwhelming results in their last four friendly matches.
However, Adams, speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, acknowledged that the squad is not yet at full strength—highlighting the absence of a substantive head coach—while maintaining belief in the team’s potential.
“We may not have the best of players as we had maybe in some time past, but we still have what it takes for us to go very, very far,” the Buem MP said.
Following the dismissal of Otto Addo, the minister confirmed that a new head coach is expected to be appointed by the end of the week or early next week, with negotiations reportedly at an advanced stage. High-profile names such as Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos have all been linked with the position.
As part of their preparations, Ghana will face Mexico and Wales in upcoming international friendlies.
The Black Stars are scheduled to open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
After consecutive group-stage exits at the 2014 and 2022 editions, Ghana will be eager to make a stronger impression as they return to the global stage.
