Brandon Thomas-Asante believes Black Stars have the quality and confidence to make a strong run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team has the talent to impose itself on any opponent as it prepares for the knockout stage.
Ghana secured a place in the Round of 32 after finishing third in Group L with four points from three matches, despite ending the group phase with a 2-1 defeat to Croatia.
Speaking to Ghana FA Media after the loss, the Coventry City forward highlighted the depth of talent within the Black Stars squad and stressed that the team remains a dangerous attacking force, particularly on the counterattack.
“We know that there’s so much talent in the squad and we want to be able to impose that on our opposition,” the Coventry City forward said.
“But saying that, even in the games where we might have been seen as more defensive, I think that there’s a lot of fear from other teams of what we do on the counter.
“So that’s not to be slept on because there is a very attacking threat, even in those defensive phases for the transition.”
The 26-year-old also revealed that Ghana’s objective throughout the group stage was to win matches rather than simply do enough to qualify for the knockout rounds.
“The overall feeling was that we want to go and win the game and to make a statement to our fans at home that we want to make a new dawn of really going for it in tournaments and being that powerhouse that we know that we are.”
Although disappointed by the defeat to Croatia, Thomas-Asante believes the Black Stars have the mentality and determination to bounce back in the knockout stage.
“We’re definitely disappointed that we didn’t win today, but we know we have that feeling inside to go and progress,” he added.
The Black Stars will now turn their attention to a Round of 32 showdown against Colombia on Saturday at Kansas City Stadium, with Thomas-Asante and his teammates aiming to keep Ghana’s World Cup dream alive.
