Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil says he is confident Ghana have the quality and mentality to make a strong statement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana have been drawn in a tough Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama — a challenging test for the four-time African champions next summer.

Paintsil, who represented Ghana at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, believes the current team has enough talent to succeed.

“It’s a tricky group; Ghanaians cannot underrate. Forget about the names — I believe it’s a group that will bring the best out of the team,” he told Joy Sports.

He also praised the Black Stars’ recent form in the qualifiers and backed the squad to compete with the world’s best.

“Our performances in the qualifiers were fantastic. We have a squad of highly skilled players who can rise to any challenge,” he added.

The Black Stars will open their campaign on June 17 against Panama, face England on June 23, and wrap up their group stage against Croatia on June 27.

The 2026 tournament will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance as the team looks to reach the knockout stage for the first time since their historic 2010 run in South Africa.
