Panama coach Thomas Christiansen has welcomed the challenge of facing Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, acknowledging the quality and danger the Black Stars bring to Group L.
The Central Americans were paired with Ghana, England and Croatia in a tough group for next summer’s global showpiece.
Christiansen, speaking shortly after Friday’s draw, highlighted his familiarity with Ghana coach Otto Addo from their days as opponents in the German Bundesliga, a link he believes offers useful knowledge ahead of their meeting on June 17.
“I faced him when I was a player in the Bundesliga, so I know him and know the quality that he had as a player and what he has brought to the team,” he told 3SPORTS.
The Panama boss also singled out forward Inaki Williams as a key threat, describing the Athletic Bilbao striker as one of Ghana’s most dangerous weapons due to his speed, movement and relentless work rate.
With England and 2018 finalists Croatia also in the group, Panama enter the tournament as underdogs. Yet Christiansen maintains they will approach each match with ambition and resilience.
Ghana, on the other hand, hope to rediscover the magic of their memorable 2010 campaign as they chase a return to the knockout round for the first time in 16 years.
