Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has expressed confidence in Otto Addo’s ability to steer the Black Stars to success at the 2026 World Cup.

After missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Addo successfully guided Ghana to the World Cup, with the team topping their qualifying group with 25 points from 10 matches.

Despite public calls for his dismissal ahead of the tournament, Kingston, who is now in charge of Uganda’s national youth sides, believes the 50-year-old coach has the experience and capability to lead the national team. However, he emphasised the importance of maintaining consistent performances.

“Otto Addo has what it takes to lead every team because of the experience he has now,” Kingston told SuperSport Blitz.

“He has been at FC Nordsjaelland before going to Borussia Dortmund, a side that is just like Nordsjaelland, so I believe that in the long term, he will be a success for the national team, but there should be consistency,” he added.

Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England on June 23 in Boston, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, the Black Stars are targeting a deeper run in the expanded 2026 World Cup. Otto Addo is expected to announce his final squad on June 1.
