Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has called on the 2026 World Cup host nations to relax entry requirements to allow more supporters to experience the global showpiece.

The tournament, which kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature 48 nations for the first time in an expanded format.

Adams expressed concern that the current visa processes pose significant barriers, particularly for ordinary fans who may struggle to meet usual criteria such as proof of property ownership, marriage, or strong financial records.

“I may be a sports fan and may not have any tie to anybody—no marriage, no kids. Does that mean I shouldn’t go and watch the World Cup?” Mr. Adams asked.

He argued that, given America’s values on freedom and recreation, authorities should ease some restrictions to encourage wider participation.

“America believes in recreation and the rights of persons, so you cannot continue to put so many restrictions on people who want to go and watch the World Cup. Certain things must be relaxed because of the World Cup,” the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency added.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and close the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
