An amount of GH¢150 million has been allocated to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports Chairman, Ernest Norgbey, has confirmed.
Ghana will make its fifth World Cup appearance, drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The tournament is set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Norgbey explained that the funding is intended to ensure the national team receives comprehensive preparation for the competition.
“Well, when you talk of funding, the government has allocated about GH¢150 million for the preparation as we speak now,” he said.
He noted that while FIFA will also provide financial support, those funds may not arrive in time to cover the immediate costs of pre-tournament preparations.
“But we still need funding because, yes, we know that FIFA will be giving us some amount of money, but that amount of money will not come before even the preparation,” he noted.
Although the breakdown of the GH¢150 million has not been disclosed, the Black Stars are set to face Germany and Austria in the upcoming international window as part of their World Cup buildup.
Ghana opens its 2026 campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and concluding the group stage with a match against Croatia on June 27.
