Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has urged authorities to act decisively in appointing a highly qualified coach to steer the Black Stars back to form ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His remarks come in the wake of Otto Addo’s dismissal following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart, a result that came on the heels of a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna. The back-to-back setbacks have heightened concerns about the national team’s direction.
With the World Cup fast approaching, Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed that there is no time for experimentation, insisting that the focus must be on experience, quality, and immediate results.
He told Graphic Sports that if resources are available, the country should not hesitate to invest in a top-level coach capable of delivering a quick turnaround.
“If the government has the money, they should pay well and go for a top-class coach,” Dr Nyaho Tamakloe told Graphic Sports, underlining the reality that elite expertise comes at a premium.
“Some coaches have the ability to turn teams around quickly,” he added.
The veteran administrator also cautioned against the possible return of former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah, whose name has surfaced in discussions. He suggested that past circumstances should rule out a comeback.
In the meantime, several high-profile names, including 2014 World Cup-winning coach Joachim Löw and South Africa’s Pitso Mosimane, have been linked to the vacant position.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to confirm a new head coach in the coming days, ahead of the Black Stars’ return to action in May for friendly matches against Mexico and Wales.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the World Cup, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia.
