The preliminary round of the 2026/27 MTN FA Cup was announced after Tuesday’s draw at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters.
The round features clubs from the Division One and Division Two leagues, while all 18 Ghana Premier League sides have been exempted and will enter the competition at the round of 64.
Several intriguing ties have emerged from the draw, including a Bono derby between Victory Club Warriors and Eleven Wonders, while former Premier League sides Real Tamale United and Yapei United will meet in a Northern Region showdown.
Victory Club Warriors have invested heavily ahead of the new season and will be keen to make an impression against Eleven Wonders, who are determined to return to the top flight.
Another eye-catching fixture in the north will see Real Tamale United face Yapei United, with both sides set to battle for regional bragging rights.
Tamale City will also take on Wa Power SC in a potentially tight encounter between two sides who impressed in the Division One League last season. Tamale City narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League, while Wa Power emerged as a competitive force.
In the Eastern Region, Okwawu United will host Kotoku Royals in a clash between two clubs with experience in Ghana’s top flight.
Elsewhere, King Faisal will begin their campaign against Pro Sports Academy. The former Premier League side will be expected to progress, although the unpredictable nature of cup football could make the tie more difficult than anticipated.
Ebony FC face a tough test against Nations FC, while Great Olympics will return to FA Cup action against MSK Zilina FC, an academy side known for developing young talent.
Great Olympics, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, will look to use their experience to overcome their opponents.
Accra Lions will face John Paintsil FC in another interesting contest. The former top-flight side will hope to build on their reputation for youth development and make a strong start to their cup campaign.
In the Western Region, Sefwi All Stars will host Skyy FC in a regional derby. Skyy FC, who featured in the Premier League two seasons ago, will face a difficult test against their hosts, who will look to make home advantage count.
Golden Kick SC, last season’s finalists, will begin their campaign against Attram De Visser in another notable fixture. Golden Kick will be eager to build on their impressive run to the final, but Attram De Visser’s academy pedigree makes the tie one to watch.
With several former Premier League clubs, ambitious lower-division sides and established youth academies involved, the preliminary round promises an exciting start to the 2026/27 MTN FA Cup, where teams will be aiming to progress and keep their hopes of lifting the trophy alive.
