The 2025 Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, powered by Smirnoff, has been officially launched in grand style, themed Shake the Floor.
Luna Rooftop Bar, in the heart of Airport City, was the venue for the epic curtain-raiser of the 13th edition of Africa’s biggest DJ event on Saturday, July 19. The event set the tone for what promises to be another milestone celebration of Ghana’s vibrant DJ culture.
The high-energy launch, expertly steered by seasoned MCs Jay Foley and Michelle Agyekum, attracted some of the most influential personalities in the creative industry. Notable attendees included Gilbert Aggrey a.k.a. Abeiku Santana, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, and Mr. Ahumah ‘Daddy Bosco’ Ocansey, Board Member of the Ghana DJ Awards.
Other personalities who showed up to express their unwavering support included Fameye, Eddy Blay, Streetbeatz, Mixmaster Garzy, Lali x Lola, OV, Nana Romeo, Kalybos, MC Yaa Yeboah, and influencer Tilly, among others.
Their presence underscored the awards’ stature as Africa’s leading DJ honours scheme, powered by Smirnoff and proudly sponsored by Guinness Ghana.
Reigning Event DJ of the Year, DJ Pho, kicked off the night with a stunning display of turntable skills, treating attendees to back-to-back sing-along classics. He later handed over to DJ Phantom and DJ Sly King, who elevated the energy to another level.
The night also featured music performances from dancehall artiste Aklerh, hiplife group Keche, and Afrobeat singer Mopthy.
Speaking at the launch, the organizers—Merqury Republic—unveiled an exciting calendar of activities designed to sustain the buzz ahead of the main event, slated for November 29, 2025, at the Palms Convention Center, La-Accra.
Before the grand finale, six out of the 16 regions—Greater Accra, Volta, Bono, Ashanti, Western, and Central—will host the much-anticipated Pubfest.
The Pubfest train is expected to continue its tradition of unearthing some of the nation’s most talented but hidden DJs. It will also connect music fans and industry players to their favourite DJs and reiterate the DJ’s powerful role as a cultural curator—energizing communities through music, skill, and creativity.
The 2025 calendar also includes educational components, with Takoradi and Accra set to host the Ghana DJ Clinic on August 30 and November 27, respectively.
Merqury Quaye, Creative Director and Founder of the scheme, revealed that the 13th edition will feature a Jamaican sound-clash segment on November 29.
Meanwhile, Yaa Amoah-Owusu, Marketing Manager for Spirits & Ready To Drink (RTDs) at Guinness Ghana, expressed her “heartfelt gratitude to the organizers of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards for their commitment to putting the Ghanaian DJ on the global map.”
She added, “Guinness Ghana will continue to lead and shape the DJ community in Ghana through the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards festival.”
With the launch successfully done and dusted, the journey to crown the best of Ghana’s DJing fraternity has officially begun, promising a series of immersive experiences that spotlight talent and grow the music culture.
