Heart of Lions picked up their first victory in the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament after edging Asante Kotoko 1-0 on Friday afternoon at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The Kpando-based side, who lost their opening fixture to Hearts of Oak on Wednesday, bounced back strongly thanks to a decisive first-half strike from Paul Atta Agyei.
Kotoko, who were also seeking redemption after falling 2-1 to Bibiani Gold Stars in their opener, pushed hard after the break but failed to break through Lions’ resilient backline.
Despite dominating possession in the second half, the Porcupine Warriors could not find the equaliser and were left to rue missed chances.
The result lifts Bashir Hayford’s men into contention ahead of their final group clash with Bibiani Gold Stars.
Kotoko, meanwhile, will now turn their focus to a high-stakes showdown against rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday as they search for their first points of the competition.
