Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan will lock horns with Senegal in the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Falcons of Jediane sealed their place in the knockout stage following Morocco’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Zambia, a result that confirmed Sudan’s progression after they had earlier secured a narrow but vital 1-0 win against Equatorial Guinea in their second group match.
That victory was particularly significant, marking only Sudan’s second win at the Africa Cup of Nations since 1970 and their first success at the tournament since 2012.
Sudan later fell 2-0 to Burkina Faso at the Mohammed V Stadium in their final group fixture on Wednesday, a result that saw them advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
They will now set their sights on a place in the quarterfinals when they take on Senegal on Saturday, January 4, at the Tangier Grand Stadium.
Appiah’s steady leadership has been pivotal to Sudan’s impressive resurgence, adding another notable chapter to a coaching career increasingly shaped by landmark achievements on the continental stage.
