Kwesi Appiah has guided Sudan to the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a historic achievement for the Falcons of Jediane.

Sudan secured their spot as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams after Morocco’s decisive win over Zambia, confirming their progression before the final group matches even kicked off.

The team’s rise has been dramatic, moving from the bottom of their group to third place following a crucial 1-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea.

The win was particularly momentous, representing only Sudan’s second-ever triumph at AFCON since 1970 and their first on the continental stage since 2012.

For Appiah, the feat adds another highlight to a distinguished coaching career, as he continues to make history with Sudan in African football.

While the Falcons still face Burkina Faso in their final group match on Wednesday at Mohammed V Stadium, qualification is already secured, allowing the team to approach the game with confidence and less pressure.

Sudan now joins the continent’s powerhouses—including Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and Ivory Coast—in the Round of 16, standing tall and fueling hopes of an even deeper run in the tournament.
