Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Samuel Safu Duku, says the club remains committed to hosting its CAF Confederation Cup home matches at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, despite the venue currently falling short of CAF requirements.
The 40,000-capacity stadium has been deemed unfit to stage any CAF-sanctioned games in its present condition.
With Kotoko set to face Nigerian side Kwara United in the first round of the preliminary stage, Safu Duku revealed that efforts are underway to bring the facility up to standard.
“We have been working on the pitch and the entire stadium to meet the CAF standard,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“We are yet to know when officials from CAF will arrive in Ghana for the inspection, but we will make sure we play our games at the Baba Yara Stadium.”
He further disclosed that the club is partnering with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to complete the renovation works.
“With regards to cost, Kotoko has decided to support the National Sports Authority in ensuring that the stadium is up to standard, but the majority of the cost will be taken care of by the NSA,” he added.
The first leg of the tie is scheduled to take place in Kumasi between September 19 and 21, with the return fixture in Nigeria from September 26 to 28.
The winner will progress to face Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Casablanca in the next round.
