2024 WAFCON: We will put up a good performance against Algeria – Ghana coach assures

Black Queens

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has vowed his side will deliver a stronger performance when they face Algeria in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday, July 19.

Ghana will lock horns with the North African side at the Stade Municipal de Berkane at 16:00 GMT, with a place in the tournament’s last four at stake.

Despite conceding in all three group stage matches, the Swedish tactician expressed confidence in his team’s ability to raise their level.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday, Bjorkegren praised Algeria’s defensive organisation but insisted the Black Queens will do everything possible to unsettle them.

“Algeria are a really well-organised team, especially in defense, and they have a good goalkeeper,” Björkegren told the press on Friday.

“We’ve talked about the need to make it a little more difficult for her.

“We can’t just shoot from 45 meters and hope for the best. We need to create better chances and be clinical when those opportunities come; no need to look for fancy goals.

“It’s going to be a difficult game, but I believe in the players. I’m sure they’ll put in a good performance,” he added.

The Black Queens are eyeing a semifinal berth after progressing from the group stage with one win, one draw, and one loss.
