Black Queens coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, has expressed his frustration after his side was held to a 1-1 draw by Mali in their second Group C match at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Queens, desperate for a win after losing their opener 2-0 to South Africa, started brightly and took the lead through Alice Kusi’s 6th-minute strike.
Ghana maintained their advantage into the break but were pegged back in the second half when Aissata Traore levelled for Mali at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
Reflecting on the match, Björkegren lamented his side’s inability to make their dominance count.
“We did a good analysis of the game. We had chances to win it. On a normal day, we would win 9/10 times, but here we are with a point,” the Swiss gaffer said after the game.
Despite the setback, Björkegren remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances of progressing from the group.
“We are still in the tournament. We just need to win the last game [against Tanzania that also have one point following their 1-1 draw with defending champions South Africa],” pointed out Björkegren.
Ghana currently sit third in Group C with a single point and will take on Tanzania on Monday at 19:00 GMT in their final group fixture.
