Black Queens midfielder Grace Asantewaa has set her sights on lifting the trophy at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Her comments follow Ghana’s dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Algeria in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

The win secured Ghana’s first semifinal berth at WAFCON since 2016, marking a significant milestone for the team.

Speaking after the match, Asantewaa, who played the full 120 minutes, could not hide her delight and ambition for the tournament.

“First of all, thank you. I’m very happy. I’ve been preparing for this, and Ghanaians have been waiting for this moment,” she said.

“I would like to win this trophy and see my name in the history books of Ghana, of Africa, and even worldwide. I’m very happy, and I know Ghanaians are happy too,” Asantewaa added.

The Black Queens will now shift their attention to a crucial semifinal showdown against host nation Morocco, scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, at the Stade Olympique de Rabat.

Ghana will be aiming for their first WAFCON final appearance since 2006 in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
