Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has heaped praise on goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan following her heroic display in Ghana’s quarterfinal triumph over Algeria.
The Black Queens booked their place in the semifinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 4-2 victory on penalties on Saturday afternoon, marking their first appearance in the last four since 2016.
Konlan was the star of the shootout, making two crucial saves to help Ghana progress.
“Amazing, I told the whole of Ghana to believe in us,” Chantelle said.
“We pushed it, we gave a couple of heart attacks, but [the belief from everyone] pushed us through.
“Cynthia [goalkeeper] made it easy for us. She put us ahead by saving. In my eyes, a goalkeeper should never save a penalty. She did amazing, and we are grateful we’ve got her in goal.”
Ghana will now prepare to face host nation Morocco in a highly anticipated semifinal clash on Tuesday, July 22, at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The Black Queens will be aiming to reach the final for the first time since 2006.
