Ghana’s Black Queens remain without a win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 1-1 draw with Mali in their second Group C match.
Following a 2-0 loss to South Africa in their opening fixture, Ghana went into the game needing all three points to revive their campaign.
The Queens made a bright start, and it paid off early when Doris Boaduwaa powered home a header in the 6th minute to give Ghana the lead.
Despite dominating large spells of the first half, the Queens squandered key chances to extend their advantage, with Boaduwaa and Evelyn Badu both missing opportunities under pressure. The first half ended with Ghana narrowly ahead.
Mali came out stronger after the interval and found the equaliser in the 52nd minute through Aissata Traoré, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to level the score.
The result leaves Ghana with just one point from two games and under pressure to deliver a win in their final group match against Tanzania on Monday.
To progress to the next round, Ghana must beat Tanzania and hope South Africa defeat Mali in the other Group C fixture.
