2024 election: NPP lost due to govt’s performance, not Bawumia’s personality – Gideon Boako

Dr. Gideon Boako, spokesperson for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections because of its overall performance in government, not because of Dr Bawumia’s personality.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Boako dismissed suggestions that the Dr. Bawumia, who was flagbearer was to blame for the defeat.

He explained that Ghanaians voted based on the party’s record in office and not on individual candidates.

“I am not admitting that the NPP’s performance was a total failure. Granted, it is our performance that led Ghanaians to vote us out. We are one party, and we are all NPP members. All the supporters of Bawumia are NPP supporters.

“There are attempts to sabotage Bawumia. This is not about the personality of Bawumia. Ghanaians know the reasons they didn’t vote for the NPP, and if we don’t strategise and provide the right solutions for Ghanaians, they will reject us again. Bawumia is not the reason Ghanaians did not vote for us,” he stated.

He further urged party members to unite, support whoever emerges as flagbearer, and avoid internal sabotage ahead of the next elections.

“If our party comes back to power, we are the same people who will be chosen to govern the country. If we believe we made mistakes as a party that resulted in our defeat, we need to examine that and strategise collectively to support whoever we choose to represent the party as our flagbearer,” Dr. Boako said.
