Matchday 33 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League delivered a host of thrilling encounters across various stadia, with key results shaping both ends of the league table.
At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Asante Kotoko secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Medeama SC. The visitors struck early through Kingsley Braye in the 5th minute, but Albert Amoah turned the game on its head with a quick-fire brace in the 24th and 41st minutes to hand Kotoko a 2-1 halftime lead. Medeama pulled level in the 68th minute courtesy of Manuel Mantey, but Amoah completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute to seal all three points for the Porcupine Warriors.
Relegated Legon Cities endured further misery with a 2-0 defeat to Hearts of Oak at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Kwabena Boateng opened the scoring just before halftime, and Michael Awuah Mensah doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half as the Phobians cruised to victory.
At the Golden City Park, Bibiani GoldStars pulled off a surprise 3-2 win over Berekum Chelsea. Stephen Amankona put the hosts ahead in the 8th minute, but Foster Agyei quickly equalised. Abdul Farouk Amoaful then netted twice in quick succession (23rd and 25th minutes) to give GoldStars a 3-1 halftime lead. Amankona scored his second after the break, but it proved to be just a consolation.
In Tamale, Karela United impressed with a commanding 3-0 win over Young Apostles at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Abdul Latif broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, and Malik Abubakar added a second before halftime. The hosts capped their dominant display with a third goal in the 90th minute.
Dreams FC condemned Accra Lions to relegation with a 2-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium. Following a goalless first half, Abdul Razak Salifu opened the scoring in the 54th minute, and Musibau Aziz wrapped up the victory in the 85th minute. The loss confirmed Accra Lions’ drop to the Division One League after four seasons in the top flight.
Defending champions FC Samartex needed late heroics to overcome Aduana FC 2-1. Baba Hamadu Musah gave the home side a 6th-minute lead, but Kelvin Obeng equalised for Aduana before halftime. The hosts grabbed a dramatic winner deep into added time to secure all three points.
In Kpando, Heart of Lions earned a 2-1 win against Bechem United. Kwesi Pong converted from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute, and Asante Seedorf Afful made it 2-0 midway through the second half. Nandji Zoumana Traore pulled one back for Bechem, but it was not enough.
Controversy marred the match between Basake Holy Stars and Nations FC, which ended prematurely after Nations FC walked off the pitch following a series of disputed penalty decisions.
With one round remaining, Nations FC, Bibiani GoldStars, Asante Kotoko, and Heart of Lions currently occupy the top four spots. At the bottom, Accra Lions, Legon Cities, and Nsoatreman FC have all been relegated to the Division One League.
