The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT), 2023, has appealed to government to expedite financial clearance for their recruitment into the teaching service as they continue to grapple with joblessness a year after completing training.
The group, made up of graduates from public Colleges of Education, expressed frustration over prolonged unemployment, which they say has left many struggling to make ends meet and battling depression due to uncertainty about their future.
In a statement copied to Adom News, CUTT said despite their passion for teaching and their desire to contribute to the country’s educational development, their recruitment process has stalled, awaiting approval from the Ministry of Finance.
The teachers revealed that several petitions to the Ministry of Education and engagements with key stakeholders have yielded little response, heightening their sense of neglect.
“We urge the government to expedite our recruitment process into the teaching service. We are eager to serve our nation and contribute to the development of our country’s education sector,” the statement read.
The group stressed that they are individuals with dreams and aspirations who only seek the opportunity to serve.
They called on government and policymakers to consider their plight and take swift action to address the growing unemployment among trained teachers.
According to them, with the necessary clearance, they can effectively support Ghana’s education system and help address the persistent teacher shortages in parts of the country.
