A two-year-old toddler has tragically died at Bibiani in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region after being hit by a vehicle.

Two-year-old Elliana Abena Mensah Beyesel lost her life after a Toyota Hilux pick-up knocked her down.

According to the Bibiani Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), police received a distress call reporting a road traffic accident at Degede, a suburb of Bibiani, involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. When officers arrived at the scene, neither the vehicle nor the victim was present.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect driver, 40-year-old Kwame Wisdom Hlovor, was driving a Toyota Hilux pick-up (registration number GR 7390-25) from the Bibiani Mines Old Administration Office towards Degede.

The driver had parked the vehicle in front of two houses and, while attempting to move off, ran over Elliana, who was standing close to the front of the vehicle.

The toddler sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police later traced both the deceased and the vehicle to the hospital. The body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy, while the vehicle has been impounded for inspection and testing. The suspect driver is currently in custody, assisting with investigations.
