Former Black Stars forward Laryea Kingston has described Mohammed Salisu’s recent injury as a significant blow for Ghana ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The 25-year-old centre-back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, confirmed by French side AS Monaco this summer, casting serious doubt over his participation in the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking to 3Sports, Kingston, who now coaches Uganda’s youth national teams, stressed the impact Salisu’s absence could have on the squad.
“It’s a very big blow for us because he is such an important figure at the back,” Kingston, who now coaches Uganda’s junior national teams, said.
“When you talk about experienced players at our back line, I think if he’s one of them and it’s going to be a very big blow for us,” he added.
Salisu has been central to the Black Stars’ defence, forming a reliable partnership with Alexander Djiku in recent matches.
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is expected to unveil his final World Cup squad on June 1.
