18 riders arrested in Kenyasi for unregistered motorbikes

The Kenyasi District Police Command in the Ahafo Region has arrested and detained 18 riders for using unregistered motorbikes, tricycles, and pragyia during an operation conducted on Tuesday, August 8.

The suspects were arraigned before the Kenyasi District Magistrate Court on Wednesday, August 7, where each was fined GH¢1,140 and ordered to register their vehicles.

Superintendent Harold Opoku Yamoah, the Kenyasi District Police Commander, disclosed that approximately 90% of motorbikes in the district remain unregistered.

He expressed concern about the growing trend of reckless riding, which he said is exacerbated by the lack of vehicle registration, making it difficult to trace offenders.

“The fines imposed are meant to serve as a deterrent and encourage riders to regularize their operations,” he stated.

Superintendent Yamoah emphasized that the police will sustain the operation until all unregistered motorbikes in the district are properly documented.

He added that registering the motorbikes would likely promote responsible riding and curb excessive speeding, as riders would know they can easily be identified.

He further urged all motorbike and tricycle riders in the district to register their vehicles before the law catches up with them.
