A 15-year-old boy in Kaprae, a farming community in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region, has reportedly committed suicide by hanging.
According to information gathered by Adom News, Obed Amatey Anim went fishing with his uncles on Monday while his father was attending a funeral. Later, he was found hanging from a tree in the community, lifeless.
The circumstances surrounding the tragic incident have shocked the community, prompting calls for a thorough investigation.
Speaking with Adom News, the assembly member of the Kaprae-Akaniem electoral area, Paul Nyanglesi, confirmed the tragedy.
He stated that the incident had been reported to the police and that the body had been returned to the family for burial in Kaprae.
He added that the boy had no known problems with anyone in the community and expressed confusion over how such an act could happen.
Nyanglesi urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation, as he and the community suspect that someone may be responsible.
The boy’s grandfather, Teye Torgbenu, suspects that his grandson was murdered by his uncles and insinuates that they hung him from the tree. He explained that the boy was healthy and had even gone fishing with his uncle earlier the same day before the incident.
Torgbenu strongly urges the police to conduct a proper investigation and bring the responsible persons to justice.
