The Koforidua Circuit Court B has granted bail to 14 individuals arrested for engaging in illegal mining, locally known as galamsey, at Akyem Muoso in the Eastern Region.
Each suspect was granted bail in the sum of GH¢350,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified with movable property.
The suspects were arrested by the Eastern South Regional Police Command on May 15, 2025, and arraigned the following day, May 16.
During the arrest, police retrieved a pump-action gun from one of the suspects, identified as Zuberu Nuhoho. He reportedly failed to provide documentation for the weapon.
Additionally, law enforcement officials recovered two excavator control boards from the mining site, according to a police statement.
The suspects are expected to reappear in court as investigations continue.
