Eleven policemen have been promoted in recognition of their role in dismantling a gang responsible for 11 rural bank robberies across five regions.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, announced the promotions at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
He said the decision by the Police Management Board followed a “major breakthrough” in the fight against violent crime.
“On this note, I want to inform you that the Police Management Board has decided to promote three Chief Inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police, three Inspectors to Chief Inspector, two Sergeants to Inspector, one Corporal to Sergeant, and three Constables to Lance Corporals,” Dr. Yohuno stated.
He added with a light remark that the Constables were “very fresh” and “lucky” to have been promoted to Lance Corporals.
The promotions followed a six-month intelligence operation that led to the arrest of 10 suspects and the killing of three others. The gang, led by Kwasi Egyir, alias Cobra, carried out the robberies between April and September this year across the Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions.
Police recovered 14 weapons, including AK-47 rifles stolen from officers during earlier attacks, GH¢18,845, foreign currencies, vehicles, motorbikes, and jewellery. An AK-47 belonging to Corporal Francis Eduyao, who was killed on the Bibiani-Goaso highway in November 2024, was also recovered.
Two suspects, including an ex-convict identified as Kwabena Owusu-Ansah, alias Kobe, remain at large.
Dr. Yohuno commended the officers for their dedication and warned criminals that the police would continue to pursue all perpetrators until they are brought to justice.
