Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has reflected on his team’s struggles in their Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash against Real Madrid.

The Premier League side suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Spanish giants on Wednesday, as Federico Valverde’s first-half hat trick sealed a commanding win for the reigning European champions.

Speaking after the match, the Ghana international admitted that City were below their usual standards in his debut Champions League appearance but remained hopeful for a comeback in the second leg.

“Overall, we know we didn’t play well. We want to go into Tuesday and change that, so we have to wait till then,” Semenyo said.

“They are very good in transition, and there were a couple of spaces in the middle of the park, and they exploited that. We will just go back to the drawing board and make sure we are up for it. We had our spots where we attacked really well, so hopefully in the home leg we can take our chances,” he added.

Manchester City now face the challenge of overturning a three-goal deficit when they host Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium next week.
