Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast in a video circulating on social media, the musician described himself as “a very, very freaky guy” and said the practices form part of the unique bond he shares with his partners.

“I’m a very freaky guy. Anytime it’s raining, sometimes I call my wives, take them to the rain, we stand there naked and pray. Sometimes after we finish having sex, we pray,” he said.

Shatta Wale also spoke about his decision to be in a relationship with two women, saying he prefers to describe his lifestyle using his own term rather than the conventional label of polygamy.

Speaking in an interview, Perez Musik said AI has become an important part of his songwriting and production process, helping him develop ideas before heading into the recording studio.

According to him, he uses AI to create demos, experiment with melodies and organise musical ideas, but insists the technology should never replace an artiste’s originality.

“AI is helping. It’s technology. It’s a tool. We can’t demonise it. You must learn how to use it,” he said.

Perez Musik explained that AI has significantly reduced the time spent on pre-production, allowing him to refine concepts before recording.

However, he expressed concern that some musicians have gone beyond using AI as a creative assistant and are relying on it to produce entire projects.

According to him, technology has become an important part of contemporary music production and performance, making it necessary for artistes across generations to understand and adopt new trends.

“This is the new thing. It is either you are with us or you are dying out. Nobody will remember you again,” Sammy Flex said.

He explained that while many older artistes built their careers on raw talent and traditional approaches to music, the current industry requires a balance between creativity and technology.

Webkid, a known member of the Shatta Movement fanbase, is currently facing charges linked to alleged cyberbullying and publication of false news against Stonebwoy.

He was first arrested on May 7, 2026, and has since remained in custody as the case progresses through the courts, drawing growing attention within Ghana’s entertainment and social media space.

The latest court appearance marked a renewed wave of support, with Shatta Wale arriving alongside close members of his team, including his manager Sammy Flex and other associates, to stand in solidarity with the embattled fan.

Supporters of the Shatta Movement also gathered at the court premises, creating a lively and tense atmosphere as they rallied behind Webkid and called for his release.

True to their call, Webkid has been granted a GHS 100,000 bail with two sureties.

Consequently, Webkid’s family expressed heartfelt appreciation to Shatta Wale for his visible support and the role he has played throughout the legal process.

The case, which reportedly stems from online posts involving dancehall rivalries and alleged defamatory content targeting musician Stonebwoy and his family, has reignited conversations around fan behaviour and the increasingly volatile nature of social media interactions within Ghana’s music industry.

Webkid, who is a salesman and blogger residing at Community 1 Site 2 in Tema, was arrested over allegations of publishing false news and engaging in offensive conduct on social media directed at dancehall musician Stonebwoy and members of his family.

In contradiction to denials from Stonebwoy’s camp, a lawyer for the accused confirmed that the dancehall musician, whose legal name is Livingstone Etse Satekla, is the named complainant on the charge sheet.

Stonebwoy’s Public Relations representative, Vida Adutwumwaa, had previously stated that “It is not in Stonebwoy’s power to cause the arrest of anybody. All we saw was that there was a court order and the guy was picked up.”

The charges

Webkid faces six counts in total, including charges under Section 76 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775) for publishing false news, and offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). His original charge sheet was withdrawn and replaced with a new one carrying two additional counts.

Prosecutors allege that on or about November 11, 2024, Webkid used his X account to share content described as false, misleading, and capable of causing fear and panic, with posts that allegedly endangered the safety of Stonebwoy and his family.

Background

According to prosecutors, the matter has roots in August 2025, when Stonebwoy discovered that several videos had disappeared from his YouTube channel. Suspicion allegedly fell on a former social media administrator identified as Casey Kobia, and a formal complaint was lodged with the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department before the matter was transferred to the Cybercrime Unit.

Investigators allege that Casey Kobia contracted several bloggers, including Webkid, to publish images of Stonebwoy, his wife, and children with derogatory and provocative captions — and that the coordinated nature of the posts amounted to conduct likely to disturb public peace.

Bail had been denied on at least two previous occasions before being granted on June 22, 2026.

Shatta Wale weighs in

Shatta Wale publicly defended Webkid during a TikTok Live session shortly after the arrest, describing him as a hero and arguing that criticising artists was part of the industry.

“It’s only a broke artist who arrests rival fans for speaking against him because you won’t get anything from the guy you have taken to court,” the musician said.

The flagship initiative centres on the introduction of a digital SM Gold Card, which requires fans to complete formal registration through an exclusive online portal.

By shifting the movement away from informal social media fan communities, the award-winning musician aims to build a verified global database to support corporate partnerships and large-scale social and development projects.

Announcing the initiative to his followers across digital platforms, Shatta Wale said:

“We are ready to officialise our Shatta Movement members with real identities and data. Register now by clicking the link below. Get your Gold Card membership after registration with just GHC100 to enjoy premium services around the world.”

The SM Gold Card is being issued on a limited membership basis at a flat fee of GH¢100 per user.

According to project details, registration grants members official Shatta Movement status, a unique global membership number, integration into local fan chapters, and access to a digital fan community.

In a video message explaining the long-term vision of the platform, Shatta Wale stressed the importance of structure and collective effort in building economic influence.

“What I’m telling you guys for us to build, it’s not me alone, it’s us,” he said. “This whole ShattaMovementFanbase.com site that I’ve created is for us to get identified because we are going to be doing projects.”

He outlined plans for the collective strength of the fanbase and database to support the creation of hospitals, schools, businesses, and factories across Ghana, aimed at generating employment opportunities.

Beyond the long-term vision, the membership card also offers lifestyle benefits, including access to selected events, meet-and-greets, and exclusive activities hosted by the artiste.

Speaking on Showbiz Review on Asempa FM, Sister Deborah revealed that in 2015, while hosting one of her regular programmes at GHOne, she was instructed to omit Shatta Wale’s name from a script she had been given for the show.

According to her, the directive came at a time when Shatta Wale was involved in a dispute with Charterhouse following his loss to Kaakie in the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste category at an awards event.

Sister Deborah said she questioned the decision because she felt it was unfair and would place her in an uncomfortable position as the face of the programme.

“I was given a script as usual, and at the last part they had mentioned three artistes and I was told to leave Shatta’s name out. I disagreed because I didn’t think it was right,” she recounted.

She claimed that at the time, it was widely known within the organisation that staff were not expected to mention Shatta Wale’s name on air because of the ongoing disagreement.

The artiste said the issue later gained attention when a Shatta Wale fan questioned on Facebook why she had failed to mention the musician during the programme.

According to her, she responded by explaining that the decision was not hers but that of the company.

However, she said her response did not go down well with management, who were unhappy that she had publicly disclosed the reason behind the omission.

“So a Shatta fan on Facebook asked why I didn’t mention him, and I told him it had nothing to do with me but the company. They got angry at me for saying that, which I found strange,” she said.

Speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast, Sarkodie said he respects Shatta Wale’s personality and honesty, noting that despite their different approaches to life and communication, they have maintained a good working relationship over the years.

“Education is the key,” he stated, emphasising the importance of investing in the future of young people.

The initiative is expected to form part of a broader campaign to raise awareness about the Fund’s work and expand access to financial support for students pursuing higher education.

The Student Loan Trust Fund has, over the years, played a critical role in supporting tertiary students in Ghana, and the anniversary partnership is aimed at strengthening its outreach and engagement, particularly among the youth.

Speaking on DayBreak Hitz on Hitz FM, he disclosed that although he is a talented musician, he has chosen not to pursue a music career publicly.

According to him, he has contributed significantly behind the scenes, writing songs for several top artistes in the country.

He specifically stated that he wrote “Kakai” for Shatta Wale because it was a concept people could easily relate to, which contributed to its popularity.

Dr. Likee added that he has written about three songs for Shatta Wale and many others for different musicians, even though he has largely stayed out of the spotlight as a songwriter.

In an interview on Hitz FM’s Cruise Control with Mercury Quaye, the minister revealed his intention to meet Shatta Wale to understand how to motivate and shape the next generation of creative and entrepreneurial talent.

Mr. Adutwum noted that he has not formally met Shatta Wale but hopes to do so in the future.

“I just saw him one day from a distance at Tamale Airport. I look forward to one day meeting him,” he said.

When that meeting happens, the Education Minister said he has three core questions for the Shatta Movement boss, all focused on his influence in Ghanaian society.

“When I meet him, I’m going to say, ‘Hey, what makes you sing this way? What is your motivation? And how would you help us create 50 Shatta Wales?’” he explained.

The minister drew a parallel with his ongoing efforts to foster technical talent in his constituency. He revealed that he has personally identified students fresh out of high school and funded their training in engineering schools.

If his initiative yields positive results—producing 93 engineers—he is confident that a similar collaboration with Shatta Wale would be fruitful.

“My goal is to create role models who inspire others. If I get to know what Shatta Wale truly is and what drives his artistry, we can help replicate that inspiration for young Ghanaians. By the time Shatta Wale retires, I’ll have 50 Shatta Wales in the system,” he added.

The fundraising gala took place on Friday, March 20, at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, an event graced by former President John Dramani Mahama.

At the event, Stonebwoy announced a contribution of $81,000 in cash, alongside $20,000 in music services, bringing his total support to $101,000.

“In terms of contribution, I will be donating $81,000,” Stonebwoy said.

Shatta Wale also confirmed a $100,000 donation, emphasising the collective support from businesses and the government.

“With companies and everybody supporting, including the man of the land, His Excellency [John Mahama], I just want to say from my team to the Black Stars and the whole organisation, we are donating $100,000,” Wale said.

Corporate backing for the campaign has been led by Engineers & Planners, the mining company owned by Ibrahim Mahama, which committed $5 million. Gold Fields followed with a pledge of $2 million, plus an additional $1 million earmarked for next year.

The government aims to raise a total of $30 million to bolster Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

Ghana has been drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, with the Black Stars set to kick off their tournament against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.

In an interview with Kobe Boujee, Stonebwoy said he is not opposed to the idea, but believes such collaborations should happen naturally rather than be forced.

According to him, artistes should prioritise building their individual brands and careers, rather than relying on joint performances to prove relevance. He drew comparisons to international stars like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido, noting that each thrives independently without needing shared platforms.

“I believe individual growth affects collective growth. Each one of us has to grow, and that is the most important thing rather than forcing growth together,” he said.

He added that when the timing is right, a joint performance could happen organically, but it should not be rushed.

Stonebwoy also emphasised the importance of mutual respect and support among artistes, explaining that how they relate to each other’s success is crucial for any potential collaboration.

However, he acknowledged that challenges arise when goodwill is lacking among some individuals in the industry.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, Shatta Wale praised Asare’s growing influence and the excitement he is generating among fans.

“They have to. The buzz he is bringing to the World Cup — right now no one is talking about any other player than the goalkeeper. We need that,” he said.

He added that the momentum surrounding the goalkeeper should not be overlooked.

He also stressed that these efforts should not be viewed as a competition but as a long-standing ambition for Ghanaian artistes to stage major global concerts. “For me to say I will support Sarkodie, I should also be part of the investors. I can do it alone, but with investors it becomes bigger,” he concluded.

Speaking in an interview on Ekosii Sen, the musician said the controversy has damaged his reputation and affected several business opportunities both locally and internationally.

According to him, EOCO officials visited his residence to verify claims that some vehicles belonging to Mr. Adu-Boahene were in his possession, but he insisted the only car found at his house was his Lamborghini.

Shatta Wale maintained that he has no dealings with the former state official and questioned why the issue was not handled privately. He said the situation has created the impression that he knowingly purchased a stolen vehicle, which he described as unfair.

“I want to boldly say that the EOCO boss needs to apologise to my brand, not me, Shatta Wale, because they have really tarnished my image in Ghana and even abroad,” he stated.

“The best thing they could have said was, ‘Shatta, come and take your car,’ but to hear another story that the car is proceeds of crime, I was like, ‘where is this coming from?’ At a point, I felt like I was not safe in this country.”

“That’s what I’m working on now, the ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’. Yes, a poultry [farm],” he said in an interview on Ekosiisen on Wednesday, March 11. “I’m setting one up in Prampram, and A Plus has also recently given me, I think, 20 acres or 30 acres of land in Gomoa, so that is what we will be doing.”

The request reportedly seeks the artiste’s consent to export the luxury vehicle back to the United States.

According to Baah Flex, the matter has been handed over to Shatta Wale’s legal team, which is currently addressing it through the appropriate legal channels. He emphasised that the artiste’s representatives are fully cooperating within the framework of the law.

He reportedly commended the policy direction, noting that it demonstrates how governance can inspire private individuals, including creatives, to invest in agriculture, create jobs, and contribute to national food security.

During the meeting, discussions also highlighted the upcoming Gomoa Easter Carnival, a four-day street festival scheduled for the Easter period.

The carnival is expected to feature masqueraders, jama groups, street performers, food vendors, traditional rulers, and over 25 performing artistes, positioning Gomoa as a hub of culture, entertainment, and enterprise.

According to Darkovibes, the dream occurred during a period when he was frequently travelling to promote Ghanaian music internationally. In the dream, Shatta Wale advised him to reduce his travels and focus on building his music locally first.

“Every year around this time, we try to export Ghana music to the world with travelling, but for the past two to three years, I had a dream where Shatta told me I travel too much and that I should stay in the country and focus on pushing my songs locally,” he said.

What made the dream more striking, Darkovibes explained, was that Shatta Wale had already given him the same advice in real life, both directly and through other people.

“I swear on my dead parents, he had already told me in person and even sent the message through other people, so I was shocked when he still came to tell me again in my dream,” he revealed.

Although Darkovibes has not personally discussed the dream with Shatta Wale, he shared the experience with other industry professionals.

Since the dream, the singer says he has consciously cut down on travelling and redirected his energy toward entertaining fans within Ghana, aiming to strengthen his local base before pursuing further international opportunities.

He also paid respect to industry elders who have played key roles in his growth, stressing that he values their guidance and mentorship.

Awal Mohammed, while condemning the government’s stringent bail conditions during a debate, cited Shatta Wale’s arrest and the protests by his fans. He has since issued an unqualified apology, clarifying that he did not intend to insult anyone.

“The term was unnecessary, and I’m truly sorry for any offense caused. I respect the passion of fans and acknowledge that my choice of words was wrong—it was totally out of sync with my character. I sincerely apologize and hope we can move forward positively,” he stated.

In response, Shatta Wale issued a strong-worded statement cautioning against the repeated undermining of his brand and the fans who support his vision. He said attacks from some media personalities, commentators, and influential figures reflect a deeper issue of selective criticism and subtle disrespect towards certain voices in society.

“For years, I have served as a voice for the youth. My influence goes beyond music to job creation, inspiration, and representing Ghana globally. This deserves respect,” Shatta Wale said.

He added: “Enough. This is bigger than music. This is about respect, fairness, and national maturity. If we truly want to move forward as a country, then the selective criticism, coded insults, and subtle disrespect towards certain voices must end—from media houses to boardrooms, from talk shows to political spaces.”

Shatta Wale also reminded that his supporters are organised and aware of their collective strength.

“The Shatta Movement is not weak. The people are not ignorant. And the patience of the masses is not unlimited. This is not a threat. This is a reminder of reality,” he concluded.

The lawsuit, filed on 15 January, seeks ₵100 million in damages, an immediate removal of the video from all social media platforms, and a public retraction accompanied by an unconditional apology.

Court documents filed by Shatta Wale’s lawyers, Robert Smith Law and Group, reveal that the legal action follows the release of a video by Black Rasta, born Abubakar Ahmed, titled “SHATTA WALE, SELF CONFESSED KING OF FRAUD.” In the video, the award-winning musician, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, is allegedly described as dishonest and involved in fraudulent activities.

Shatta Wale argues that the statements in the video are false, malicious, and defamatory, causing serious harm to his reputation. He is asking the court to declare the remarks defamatory and to order the defendant to permanently delete the video—uploaded on 15 December 2025—as well as any related content across all social media platforms.

The artiste is also seeking a perpetual injunction to prevent Black Rasta, his associates, or agents from making or publishing any further defamatory statements about him.

Additionally, Shatta Wale is demanding a public retraction and unconditional apology, to be posted on Black Rasta’s social media pages and published as full-page notices in the Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times, and Graphic Showbiz newspapers.

According to the statement of claim, the comments in the video, whether directly or by implication, suggest to “right-thinking members of society” that Shatta Wale is dishonest, morally corrupt, and involved in internet fraud and other criminal activities—allegations he strongly denies.

He maintains that the video falsely presents him as a person of questionable character who deliberately misleads the public for personal gain, a portrayal he says is entirely untrue.

Shatta Wale also highlighted the wide reach of the video, noting that within 24 hours of being posted on Facebook, it had garnered over 150,000 views, more than 1,000 comments, and about 6,000 likes. On YouTube, the video reportedly recorded over 27,000 views, more than 40 comments, and upwards of 600 likes.

He insists that the scale of engagement significantly amplified the damage to his reputation, arguing that the repeated statements in the video were calculated to undermine and tarnish his public image.

The Shatta Movement boss made the disclosure during a TikTok live session on January 15, 2026, stating that he sold about 300 of his songs to an external entity as part of the deal.

According to Shatta Wale, the proceeds from the sale were invested in property acquisitions and various business ventures, including his online ride-hailing service, Shaxi.

He also used the platform to respond to remarks by a fellow artiste who had questioned whether any Ghanaian music catalogue could command such a valuation.

“I have over 11,000 songs online that my team is still trying to gather. I sold 300 of my songs for $3 million, used the money to buy houses and invest in businesses like Shaxi. Yet someone says no Ghanaian catalogue is worth that much,” Shatta Wale said.

The debate over the valuation and sale of Ghanaian music catalogues has been ongoing since 2025, following a public dispute between producer MOG Beatz and Shatta Wale over unpaid production work on two albums, a matter that has since been resolved.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz morning show on Monday, December 22, 2025, Sarkodie disclosed that he has several unreleased tracks that are purely melodic.

According to the rapper, Shatta Wale has consistently motivated him to embrace singing as a new phase in his musical evolution.

“One person who pushes me to do more singing is Shatta Wale. When I did this one, I sent it to him. Not only that, there are about three such songs I have recorded; one I sang throughout,” he said.

Sarkodie admitted that although he enjoys creating melodic tracks, releasing them publicly makes him uneasy.

“I was very uncomfortable with it because I would write it, but putting it out is difficult for me. And he said no, this is the next phase you should do,” he added.
