The move comes in the wake of what he describes as persistent false reportage aimed at destabilising the party in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

Mr Asiedu confirmed this in an interview on Adom FM’s Midday News, following reports that he stormed the station with other officials on Thursday to lock it up and sack staff.

“We just wanted to seek an audience with them because this issue had been ongoing for over two weeks. But for their hostile attitude, nothing would have gone wrong,” he said.

He stated that the station had been peddling false reports about internal wrangling between the Awutu Senya East MP, Phyllis Naa Koryoo, and the NDC constituency chairman, Stephen Agyare, which prompted his action.

He revealed that the legal processes were completed on Wednesday and that the station would soon be served with the writ.

“I have sued the station at the High Court because they are trying to disorganise the NDC in the constituency. We completed the processes yesterday, and they will be served in due course,” Mr Asiedu stated.

He vowed not to sit idle while a radio station tarnishes the image of the party in the Central Region.

NDC Central Regional Chairman Richard Kofi Asiedu installed as Development Chief of Agona Kwanyarko https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-central-regional-chairman-richard-kofi-asiedu-installed-as-development-chief-of-agona-kwanyarko/ Tue, 12 May 2026 08:56:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2661134 The Central Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Kofi Asiedu, has been installed as the Development Chief of Agona Kwanyarko in the Central Region, with a pledge to champion development initiatives in the community.

He was enstooled under the stool name Nana Asiedu Keteke I during a colourful traditional ceremony held on Saturday, 9 May, attended by leading political figures, traditional authorities, and residents from across the region.

Among the dignitaries present were Julius Debrah, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, ministers of state, regional executives of the NDC, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, as well as several traditional rulers.

The ceremony, held at Agona Kwanyarko, saw Nana Asiedu Keteke I swear the sacred oath of allegiance before the Agona Kwanyarko chief, Odefour Dr Ampem Darko V.
In his acceptance speech, the newly installed Development Chief described his elevation as a call to service and development, stressing that he was fully aware of the pressing challenges confronting the community.

“I am familiar with the developmental challenges of Kwanyarko and will address them head-on. The issue that is particularly dear to my heart is youth unemployment,” he stated.

According to him, aside from unemployment, the town also faces significant infrastructure deficits, including poor road networks and inadequate healthcare facilities.

“Kwanyarko lacks critical infrastructure. Our roads need urgent attention, and the community also deserves a befitting hospital,” he said.

He disclosed that some indigenes had previously attempted to refurbish the town’s health facility but were unable to complete the project due to financial constraints.

Nana Asiedu Keteke I assured residents that tackling unemployment, improving road infrastructure, and supporting healthcare delivery would remain key priorities under his leadership.
He also announced that the first major initiative he intends to champion is the construction of a community centre for the town.

“The immediate project I want to focus on is a community centre for Kwanyarko to support social and community activities,” he added.

The newly installed chief further expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities and residents for the honour bestowed on him, while also thanking the high-powered delegation from the Presidency and the NDC national leadership for attending the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Ahmed Ibrahim reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to partnering with traditional authorities to accelerate local development.

He announced plans by the government, in collaboration with the traditional leadership and the area’s Member of Parliament, to support the construction of a community centre for Agona Kwanyarko within the next 12 months.

“President Mahama, the Chief of Staff and the National Chairman of the NDC believe the people of Kwanyarko made the right choice in honouring Richard Kofi Asiedu as Development Chief,” the minister said.

He added that the proposed community centre would serve as a legacy project to benefit generations of residents.

For his part, Johnson Asiedu Nketia commended the leadership qualities of Richard Kofi Asiedu, crediting him for the party’s strong electoral performance in the Central Region during the 2024 general elections.

“Under the leadership of Richard Kofi Asiedu, the NDC recorded its highest-ever electoral performance in the Central Region in 2024,” he stated.

Mr Asiedu Nketia argued that the honour conferred on the regional chairman was a recognition of his contributions to both the party and the community.

“If he had not demonstrated commitment and service to this community, traditional leaders would not have honoured him with this role,” he added.

The NDC National Chairman also clarified that the title conferred on Nana Asiedu Keteke I is honorary and does not conflict with his active political role.

He cautioned against any attempt to legally challenge the installation on the grounds of partisan politics, insisting that the role was honorary and not a hereditary chieftaincy title.

Several regional ministers, academics from the University of Education, Winneba and the University of Cape Coast, party executives, and local government officials attended the event.

More than GH¢200,000 was raised in donations towards the construction of the proposed community centre project.

GTEC threatens lawsuit against NDC Chairman over unearned ‘Professor’ title https://www.adomonline.com/gtec-threatens-lawsuit-against-ndc-chairman-over-unearned-professor-title/ Thu, 31 Jul 2025 12:26:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2561909

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a warning to Richard Kofi Asiedu, the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), over his continued unauthorised use of the honorary title “Professor.”

In a letter dated July 28, 2025, GTEC accused Mr. Asiedu of defying its earlier directives to cease the practice, describing it as “unethical” and a violation of national law.

The Commission revealed that it had earlier written to Mr. Asiedu on June 2, 2025, demanding proof of the removal of the title from all official records, including institutional profiles, websites, and letterheads.

He was also instructed to submit his highest academic qualification for verification.

However, GTEC noted with “deep concern” that Mr. Asiedu has persisted in using the title, as evidenced by a recent EELL 2025 Conference promotional poster, where he was billed as “Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu.”

Citing Section 8(4)(d) of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1023), GTEC emphasised its mandate to regulate the use of academic titles, including “Professor,” and warned that failure to comply could lead to legal action.

The letter, signed by Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of GTEC, urged the NDC’s National Chairman to intervene.

“The Commission respectfully appeals to you to ensure that Mr. Asiedu complies fully with the directives issued. Should he persist, the Commission may be compelled to initiate legal proceedings.”

GTEC clarified that its action was not politically motivated but aimed at upholding the integrity of academic titles. The letter was copied to the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and Mr. Asiedu himself.

In a related communication dated June 19, 2025 to the St. Andrews Group of Schools and Companies, where Mr. Asiedu serves as CEO, GTEC reiterated that while it did not dispute the honorary titles awarded to him by institutions like Alfred Nobel University in Ukraine, their use without formal academic validation was “potentially misleading.” The Commission directed him to “purge himself” of the title by July 31, 2025, or face legal consequences.

Mr. Asiedu’s profile on the EELL 2025 conference poster describes him as a “distinguished Ghanaian scholar” with “a number of earned doctorates,” but GTEC maintains that such claims require scrutiny under Section 7(i) of Act 1023, which empowers it to verify certificates and degrees.

I will die for NDC to retain Cape Coast North seat – Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-die-for-ndc-to-retain-cape-coast-north-seat-chairman/ Mon, 07 Oct 2024 14:54:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2457542

The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu, has vowed to do everything in his power to ensure the party retains the Cape Coast North parliamentary seat in the upcoming December 2024 elections.

Speaking at the launch of the constituency’s campaign, Professor Asiedu passionately declared his readiness to sacrifice for the cause, stating, “I am ready to die for this constituency to retain the seat for the NDC.”

Addressing party members and supporters, Prof Asiedu emphasized the NDC’s determination to contest the elections fiercely, saying the party is prepared to face the New Patriotic Party (NPP) head-on.

He endorsed the re-election of the current NDC MP, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, and criticized the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Cape Coast North, Ekow Horace Ewusi for lacking credibility.

“The NPP candidate, Ekow Horace Ewusi, has a history with the galamsey excavators. How can someone with such baggage represent Cape Coast North? We will not allow it.”

Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, the incumbent MP, used the campaign launch to outline his achievements during his first term in office.

He highlighted various community projects, including the provision of furniture, educational materials, scholarships, and support for local businesses.

Dr. Nyarku stressed that 65% of the NDC’s manifesto focuses on addressing youth unemployment and improving livelihoods, urging the constituents to vote for him and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

Also speaking at the event, Cape Coast South MP George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan took aim at both NPP candidates in the Cape Coast area.

He accused Horace Ekow Ewusi of being entangled in the missing excavator saga and criticized the NPP’s Cape Coast South candidate for engaging in sand mining along the beach, stating that such actions are unfit for individuals seeking public office.

Mr. Ricketts-Hagan urged voters to reject the NPP’s candidates and support the NDC, emphasizing the party’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians and restoring integrity to governance.

As the December elections approach, the NDC’s leadership in Cape Coast North is confident in its ability to retain the seat, with party officials and supporters rallying behind their candidate for victory.

Central Region will lose half of voters with EC’S proposed C.I – NDC Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/central-region-will-lose-half-of-voters-with-ecs-proposed-c-i-ndc-chairman/ Mon, 13 Mar 2023 15:02:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2227250

The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated the party’s opposition to the Constitutional Instrument (CI) proposed by the Electoral Commission (EC) is in order.

According to Richard Kofi Asiedu, the decision to make the Ghana Card the sole required document for the voter’s register will do more harm than good.

“What the EC is seeking to do is not understandable. We need to be circumspect in what we want to do and make sure the Ghana card becomes universal and it will go a long way to help us,” he said.

The NDC is kicking against the EC’s proposed CI through which it intends to make the Ghana card the sole identification document for voter registration.

The party has argued that the new CI, if passed, will disenfranchise the majority of Ghanaians from registering for voter cards.

But to Mr Asiedu, the NDC’s challenge he said is borne out of the fact that a lot of Ghanaians are still yet to acquire the Ghana card.

It is, therefore, only right if the EC allows other documents such as the passport to be used which is recognised internationally or even the birth certificate.

Our only crime was to ask Ghanaians to register for Ghana cards – EC…

Mr Asiedu shared these words on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, stressing the CI if adopted will disenfranchise a lot of people, especially in the Central Region.

“How many people even in Accra have the Ghana card? The Central Region has a lot of villages and cottages and this will really worry us. We will lose almost half of our voters and it will not help us as a region and party,” he stated.
