Pig kills butcher at slaughterhouse

A butcher died while trying to slaughter a pig in Hong Kong on Friday, the city’s police said.

The 61-year-old butcher, who worked in the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse on the city’s northern outskirts close to its border with mainland China, was knocked to the ground by the struggling pig and sustained a wound from a 40 centimeter (15 inch) meat cleaver, police told CNN.

The butcher had been about to kill the pig – which he had already shot with an electric stun gun – when it regained consciousness and knocked him over, police said.

A colleague found the man unconscious with the cleaver in his hand and a wound on his left foot, police said. He was taken to hospital and was later certified dead.

The police force said the cause of death has yet to be determined.

The city’s Labour Department said it has launched an investigation.

“The Labour Department is saddened by the death of the person and expresses its deepest sympathy to his family,” it said in a statement.

“We will complete the investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures. We will take actions pursuant to the law if there is any violation of the work safety legislation,” a department spokesman said.

The city’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, which manages livestock slaughterhouses, offered its condolences to the man’s family in a statement.

A 22- year-old man, Ayokunbi Olaniyi,has been arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having sex with a pig.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Opeyemi Olagunju, told the court that Olaniyi, who resides in Eleti – Odo area, Iwo Road, Ibadan, had sex with a pig on April 2, at about 4 p.m.

According to Olagunju, the accused works at a pig farm in Elewi – Odo area, Ibadan and was caught having sex one of the pigs. He said the suspect was being arraigned on one count of unnatural offence as the offence contravened the provisions of Section 214 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II , Laws of Oyo State 2000.

When he was called up, Ayokunbi pleaded not guilty to the offence. His counsel, Mr Mumin Jimoh, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms. According to him, the owner of the pig has forgiven his client.

The presiding magistrate, Olaide Amzat, after listening to his plea, said:

”If the owner has forgiven the defendant, has God forgiven him or the pig forgiven him? The law must take its cause”.

He admitted Ayokunbi to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He thereafter adjourned the matter until July 21 for hearing.

If you ever find yourself having to convince someone that anything is possible, just tell them about a Pigcasso, a 450 pound (204 kg) pig who, after being rescued from a South African slaughterhouse at four weeks old, went on to become an acclaimed painter.
South African animal-rights activist Joanne Lefson adopted Pigcasso after rescuing her from a grim fate at the slaughterhouse, a couple of years ago. She took the animal back to her farm and offered her a variety of toys to keep her entertained.
Among those toys were some paintbrushes, and the pig became so fascinated with them that she ignored all her other toys. Lefson decided to leave out some paint and canvas as well to see what the animal would do. Believe it or not, she started painting.
Pigcasso loves dipping the brush in paint and dragging it across the canvas. She has shown such passion and talent that she now has a personal gallery at the animal rescue farm that has become her home. But with art collectors paying up to $2,000 to get their hands on an original Pigcasso, adding new artworks to her collection has become quite difficult.

“I do not force her to paint. She paints when she wants to,’’ Lefson told Caters News. “Often, we pack an overloaded picnic basket and she pigs out on organic strawberries, guavas, and caramel-coated popcorn in between brush strokes. For Pigcasso, it’s simply hog heaven.’’
“[Pigcasso’s] art is probably what you’d call expressionist,’’ Lefson added.
Pigs are curious animals that are keen on exploration. In a domestic setting, they need some form of enrichment, such as tricks or toys, to keep them from getting bored. Bored animals can quickly become unhappy and destructive. Balls are the most common entertainment for pigs, as well as dog tricks like sitting or responding to their name. Painting, however, is a new one altogether.
Pigs, like many other animals, are dichromats, meaning that they only have two types of light-receiving cones in their eyes (humans are trichromats). Although they aren’t precisely colorblind, they cannot perceive the color red and can see fewer shades of green and blue than humans can.
Right now, Pigcasso is the world’s only known painting pig. Lefson is hoping that her pet’s notoriety as an accomplished artist will convince more people that pigs are “amazingly intelligent, exceptional animals’’ that deserve a better fate than the slaughterhouse. She is hoping that “the finest galleries in New York and Paris’’ might one day exhibit her protégé’s art.

Pig headed to auction breaks out of truck on highway

A large pig halted traffic on a Washington highway after escaping a truck headed for auction.
Washington State Trooper Rick Johnson shared a photo of the pig walking along I-5 in Federal Way on Saturday morning.
Johnson said the pig was loose on the highway until good samaritans and other troopers helped guide it to the shoulder of the road.

After about an hour, police reported the pig’s owner realized the pig had escaped and returned to put it back in the trailer.

“So…the pig jumped out of his trailer on I-5 on the way to the auction,” Johnson said. “Owner returned and put him back in trailer.”
Johnson said the pig was OK following the escape, but was “not happy” to be back in the trailer.

18-year-old boy caught having sex with pig

An 18 year old boy named Minaa, and resident of Derma Ankase in the Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo Region, could not control his libido as he subjected a pig to hot bouts of sex on Sunday.

He was caught right in the disgusting act when a lady who was on her way to discharge rubbish heard the loud grunting (cry) of a pig and drew closer to find out what was happening, only to see the boy busily ‘servicing’ the animal, with sweat all over his body.

The lady out of shock, raised alarm but the latter was quick and took to his heels, however he was located and arrested by some youth in the area and was taken to the chief’s palace.

The chief who was appalled by the boy’s act of bestiality which constitutes a taboo in the area, charged the culprit to present two goats, two bottles of schnapps and an unspecified amount of money to pacify the gods of the town, who otherwise would be enraged by the disgraceful act.

Reports say the pig was very weak and was on the verge of death after it was rescued, due to the boy’s deep penetration and level of viciousness.

Yusif Abubakar, a local reporter who spoke to Kasapa News, said the boy who rears pigs upon being interrogated over his dreadful dead, disclosed that this was not the first time he’d had sex with a pig.
